Braves' Strider to begin season on IL with oblique strain
At 27 years old, Strider is currently attempting to make a definitive leap forward in his professional trajectory. He is now two full years removed from a challenging right elbow surgery that once threatened to derail his rising career. After missing the majority of the 2024 campaign, he returned to the majors last season to navigate the rigors of a full workload. His final 2024 stat line—a 7-14 record coupled with a 4.45 ERA across 23 starts—served as a testament to his resilience, even if the results did not fully mirror his previous statistical dominance.
During this most recent spring training, Strider appeared to be recapturing the elite form that previously made him a household name in Major League Baseball. Across 8 1/3 innings of work, he posted a 2-0 record with a 3.24 ERA, demonstrating improved command and high velocity. These early indicators were meant to be the precursor to a resurgence, especially after his historic 2023 season. During that campaign, the All-Star right-hander led the entire league in both victories and strikeouts, cementing his status as one of the most feared arms in the modern game today.
